Small islands are on the frontline of climate and development pressures, but they also offer some of the clearest insights into how water, environment, society, and economy interact in practice (Pathirana, 2025). Many SIDS are also fragmented across multiple islands and remain comparatively data-poor, which makes grounded experience, local knowledge, and well-documented practical lessons especially valuable (Pathirana, 2025).
